英文标题 Evaluation of Perceived Bird Benefits of Urban Green Space Based on Residents' Preferences

作者英文名 Liu Yuqing, Zhu Xun, Gao Ming

单位英文名 School of Architecture, Harbin Institute of 'Technology; Key Laboratory of Ministry of Natural Resources for National Territory Spatial Planning and Ecological Restoration in Cold Regions, Harbin 150006, China

英文摘要 【Objective】 To investigate urban residents' preferences over bird characteristics and its relationship with perceived benefits, with the aim to provide a scientific basis for optimizing the configuration of bird habitats in urban green spaces and enhancing residents' ecological experiences. 【Methods】 Eighteen representative urban green spaces in Harbin City are selected as the study areas to elaborate on the working mechanism between residents' preference over birds and their perceived benefits through the on-site questionnaire surveys among residents. 【Results】 Residents generally prefer the birds with frequent vocalizations and easy accessibility over those rare or larger-sized birds. The presence of birds creates perceived benefits in terms of sense of identity, desire for exploration, and empathy. Avian facilities in green spaces effectively enhance perceived benefits, and the importance degree of avian habitats partially mediates the relationship between bird preferences and perceived benefits. 【Conclusion】 Urban residents exhibit stronger preferences for small, vocal, and approachable birds. Optimizing avian habitats and facilities in green spaces to enhance human-bird interactions can significantly improve residents' perceived benefits (identity, exploration and empathy) and mental health. The future research should consider the influence of seasonal elements, and make in-depth analysis in consideration of residents' own characteristics.
